Our goal is to provide the best support possible to the veterans we service. This is of great use to these clients, as many Veterans Agents are part-time or work only during the evening, also to funeral homes that may need records during weekend or holiday periods when the office is not staffed. The office maintains a web site, accessible by authorized Veterans Agents, funeral homes, or government agencies, which lets these offices search our database for records. Our personnel can locate a veteran’s records, then FAX, e-mail or mail them within a very short time – a great improvement over the previous hard copy filing system. Most records have been placed into a database, which greatly streamlined the retrieval process. Some recent Army National Guard records are still maintained by the ARNG, but will be transferred to this office at some future date. Maintains copies if all discharged Massachusetts Army and Air National Guard personnel from 1947 to present. More recently (1980 to present), discharges have been collected from all active duty service. (The “hard” copies of these discharges were collected as part of the payment process for state war bonuses, which were paid to veterans of World War II, Korea, and the Vietnam wars.)

Maintains copies of active duty discharges, DD Form 214, for residents, beginning in 1940, for the following periods: What follows is a brief overview of the services provided by this office: The Military Records Branch was previously known as the War Records Section.
